URGENT NOTICE FOR THOSE TRAVELLING TO ZANZIBAR FROM THE 01/10/24
This information is taken from the FCDO, but should be checked for clarification:
With effect from 1 October 2024, all visitors to Zanzibar (excluding residents) must have mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) for the duration of their stay (up to 92 days).
You can only buy this insurance from ZIC. Other international travel insurance policies will not be accepted. Go to the Visit Zanzibar website for more information.
You may be refused entry if you do not have the correct insurance.
If you have any questions that are not covered on the website, contact ZIC by emailing inbound@zic.co.tz.
ADDITIONAL FCDO ADVICE
Following the Tanzanian and Zanzibari General Election on 29th October, temporary travel restrictions were put in place on the mainland of Tanzania. These travel bans have since been lifted, and most areas remain safe to travel to and from. However, the FCDO still advises against any non-essential travel by tourists to "any area within 20km of the Tanzanian border with the Cabo Delgado province of Mozambique".
Please adhere to these restrictions when you are on placement in Zanzibar. Further disruption is projected on the mainland on 9th December, during Tanzania's Independence Day. The risk of disruption to Zanzibar during this time is low, but internet outage is likely to occur for a period of time. Internet should resume as normal the following day on 10th December. All students, staff or volunteers on placement with K4C will be supported during this time.
K4C advises that all students attending placement in Zanzibar sign up to email alerts on the FCDO website, which you can do here:

Room Requests
This is not a compulsory form, rather an opportunity for you to book a private room. Please note, all rooms are single-sex and we place groups in rooms as much as possible.
Provisional Placement Timetable Requests
Please scan the QR code, follow the link below, to fill in this short questionnaire to send us your core placement and exposure day options, so that we can get an idea of where you may be best placed in Zanzibar.
As per the agreement with Dr Ahlaam, Director of Mnazi Mmoja Hospital, you must stay on the same ward/unit/department for minimum 2 weeks, and cannot move around as you please. This will also enable you to build relationships with hospital staff, which will enrich your placement experience more than simply observing different work on different wards. Every two weeks on placement has an optional Exposure Day built-in, where you can shadow the work on a different ward, in the same hospital or nearby clinic.
Once we have received your form, Hannah Meleady (Project Assistant) will then draft and return a provisional placement to you on email a few weeks before you are due to travel. Please note, your chosen options are not guaranteed, and the timetable remains subject to change by K4C in-country staff depending on ward capacity, logistical feasibility, and maintaining patient dignity. Please do not make unreasonable requests to move around hospitals, wards or patients, or demand changes from the team. You are there primarily to learn, and can best do so by building relationships with staff, and the K4C team.
